Envirocomms eyes the east

EnviroComms have confirmed that they will open an office in Bulgaria towards the end of 2008 with further expansion planned into Romania in 2009. The move follows two successful trade missions organised by UK Trade and Investment, attended by EnviroComms.

The agency's first assignment in Bulgaria is the creation of a major waste and recycling conference, which will take place in Sofia in early 2009. With full backing from the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and the Bulgarian Association of Recycling, the event will be the first time the country's waste community is brought together to discussion the new challenges following accession to the EU in 2007.

EnviroComms' Director of Communication, Stephen Bates, says the country is a "blank canvas" with regards to waste management. "Unlike the UK where new services have had to be adapted to existing models, Bulgaria's current systems are sporadic in their quality or even existence and so provide the ideal grounding on which to build the most appropriate systems. Behavioural change is the biggest task facing local waste managers, which is why the work of EnviroComms has been identified as key to the country's future waste strategy"

The conference will draw speakers from across the EU including WRAP's Dr Liz Goodwin and Dr Adam Read from Hyder Consulting.
